Food Waste

Most poverty and development scientists hypothesize that we grow enough food to feed the entire world. But then why is 13% of the world population undernourished? Two reasons: Coordination Failures, and Food Waste. Between 1/3 and 1/2 of all food grown, ends up wasted. Yet, there is progress on the farming side of the issue, and now more farmers are donating food to local food banks and charities if they cannot sell it. At Merchant's Garden we work closely with the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, and always try to donate product that otherwise would be wasted. The Community Food Bank is incredibly easy to work with, and takes care of the Coordination Failures that occur surrounding getting food to the people who need it most.
