The Urban Agriculture Amendment

A big focus of our tour with the Arizona Land and Water Trust, was on the Urban Agriculture Amendment that passed in Tucson in December of 2015. This amendment allowed smaller agriculture endeavors to occur within the city limits. This includes smaller homesteading, and larger food production companies such as our own. Merchant's Garden was the first company to be given permits through the Urban Agriculture Amendment, and surely will no be the last. We are grateful that Tucson holds these values in local and urban food production because it allows food to be grown and distributed without traveling thousands of miles to get to your plate. Our Greenhouse is located in Central Tucson, on the property that formerly housed Howenstine High School. Now TUSD and Merchant's Garden are collaborating to make this property also serve as a Food Education Field Trip center for Tucson Schools.
