Here at Merchants Garden we raise Tilapia, a disease resistant freshwater fish that provides nutrients within our aquaponics system. Once the fish are large enough, they can be sold to restaurants. Until recently the skin of the fish was discarded, but now doctors in Brazil are experimenting using Tilapia skin to treat burn victims. It sounds strange, and most patients are hesitant at first, but using tilapia skin has many benefits compared to the typical petroleum jelly treatment, The skin contains optimum levels of collagen, and maintains a high level of humidity. After 1-2 weeks with the Tiapia skin treatment, the patient's skin heals incredibly well. Pretty amazing right?!
