See What We're Growing
Who else loves watching things grow?? I guess it’s a good thing, but they grow up so fast! 🌱😂
We regularly pack up 1,200 pounds of lettuce for the Tucson Unified School District, which typically takes 8 people, 5 hours, if plenty of coffee and cookies are provided! Luckily it’s always fun when the friends and family of Merchant’s Garden rally together and get stuff done! 💪🏼🙌🏽😁
The simple salad from Time Market 😍 it’s one of our favorites
Believe it or not this is baby Kale. It just developed some curly leafs that seem more “Kale-like” but initially it looks like a completely different plant!
Yummm. Check out the BLTA from Time Market. They make their bread in house, and we deliver lettuce to them a couple times a week, so this sandwich is (literally & figuratively) super fresh 😎
The Mixta Salad from @pencarestaurante with Merchant’s Garden Butterhead lettuce and Mustard Greens, and some beets, jicama, pepitas, and avocado. Our team shared this salad together last week, and it’s seriously delicious
We need to take a minute to give a BIG shout out to our customers for a truly great year. Today for our Merchants Garden holiday party we visited as many of our customers as we could, and ate some incredible food all along the way. We really appreciate the support we’ve gotten from our awesome customers, followers/friends, and family. We wouldn’t be here without you all. Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! And thank you to @timemarket @5pointstucson @pencarestaurante @hotelcongress @senaethai @welcomedinertucson and @maynardstucson for posing in some pictures with us goobs!
Sunshine and shadows ft. Citrus Basil flowers
Raindrops on mustard greens...? And whiskers on kittens 😸These are a few of my favorite things!! 🌱💧
(Tiny) field of greens. #redbokchoy
#Repost @agustinkitchen It’s amazing to see the passion for good food to shine through a dish like this. Agustin Kitchen and Janos Wilder are making the old Pueblo a famous food city with their creativity and passion... we are so happy to get to be a part of it! ・・・ Thank you chef @janoswilder for putting on such a fantastic event and allowing us to be a part of it. We had a lot of fun doing the research and development of this dish which highlighted what Tucson was and is now becoming. Also a very special thank you to @merchantsgarden for bringing sustainable seafood to the desert and demonstrating what modern farming can become. photo: @jackie_tran_
We work with Sterns Produce, one of the oldest distributors in Arizona. Here we are preparing our living Butterhead lettuce, which stays fresh for weeks after harvest. Look for our brand around town! #tucson
So... this Red Leaf Lettuce is gigantic! It didn’t look especially big until I saw it’s proposition next to my shoes! 😮🌱 #giantvegetables #impressive
Tiny Thai Basil - it already has a distinct taste and smell even though it’s so little! 🌱🐟💧☀️💚 p.s. farming and pretty nails are just not a thing, no matter how hard I’ve tried. 💅🏼🚫
From empty lot, to a 10,000 square foot greenhouse producing half a million pounds of food a year. Urban space is valuable, and it’s important to repurpose land before expanding out into untouched habitats. Since we are located in central Tucson, our food only travels an average of 3.6 miles to each customer. This means it tastes better, is more nutritious, and lasts longer because it was just harvested. How many empty lots in Tucson could be used to grow food? #toomanytocount #urbanfarm #supporturbanagriculture
Red or Green? (p.s. there are about 5,000 plants in this one picture!)
Micro Mustard Greens 🍀
Pearl is easily our favorite neighbor! She loves holding the little Tilapia, munching on lettuce, and feeding the big fish! 🌱🐟 Sometimes we forget how magical and exciting this place is, and it always brightens our day to see kids excited about vegetables and farming!
This is one of my favorite pictures! I’m not exactly sure why, but something about the colors in this sea of baby Red Bok Choy just seems so right! Am I alone here??
